CASE STUDY: A SMARTER TASK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Case Study: Smarter Task Management
In this case study, we will imagine a next generation to-do list and task management software system. Our implementation will utilize large language models to guide users towards the most urgent tasks and minimize the friction to start their tasks.

The Problem
Systems like to-do lists, calendars, and notes can excel at managing certain tasks, but are not flexible to handle a range of situations. Because of this, keeping track of our daily lives requires constant focus and excess energy. Oftentimes, it feels like we spend more time managing our tasks than actually completing them.

User Research
The Solution
How might we help people get, and keep, momentum when managing their tasks?

Ideation & LoFi Prototype
Looking at our my LoFi prototype in the context of our user research, the importance of momentum started to become very clear. Using a physics analogy, static friction means it takes more effort to move a stationary object, but inertia tells us that once the object is moving it takes less energy. At this point, I saw that if I created a product that helped people get started on tasks it would take less energy to get them done. This thought guided my approach to the MidFi prototype.
